This article will explain how to document the service provider for social skills depending on whether social skills are provided by a special education teacher or another therapist.
Social Skills services are most commonly provided by special education teachers. If the special education teacher is listed as the service provider on the student's IEP, this service will be listed as a "Special Education Service." Social Skills services provided by a special education teacher should be indicated in the Special Education Data View within the Consult/Direct Special Education Services section.
- Select "Yes" next to "Social Skills Services"
- Make sure that the number of social skills service minutes on the IEP are included in the "Special Education minutes per month" field
Sometimes, the student's IEP may indicate that social skills services should be provided by a related service provider such as a mental health counselor or a social worker. If social skills are indicated as a related service, this service will be listed on the "Related Services" portion of the IEP and will specify the type of therapist who will be the service provider.
Social Skills services that must be provided by a therapist as a related service should be listed in the Other 1 or Other 2 portion of the Special Education Vendor Management Data View.
- Other Services: indicate Social Skills/Virtual or Social Skills
- Refer to the knowledge base article for how to complete Other 1 and Other 2 Service sections
